Forty years old. A milestone birthday that calls for a special celebration. In the case of my wife it is a two week trip to south east Asia with her mom this March. This has left me and our two boys, 9 and 5, with a wide open calendar to plan an adventure during March break. So what did we decide to do? Go to San Antonio of course!
We will be flying out of Toronto on March 12th and will be spending 7 days exploring San Antonio and, of course, cheering on the Spurs during three home games (March 13th v. Orlando, March 15th vs. New Orleans and March 17th vs. Minnesota). Needless to say, the boys (and me) are very excited!
Having previously been to San Antonio over a half dozen times, most recently in March of 2014, I have covered the “standard” sites and then some -from the Alamo and Mission Trail to the RiverWalk and Hemisfair Park to San Fernando Cathedral and the Historic Market Square to the King William District and Blue Star Arts Complex.
While three years is not that the long, San Antonio seems to be evolving at a rapid pace. The Pearl is definitely on our list and we will be stopping by the Hays Street bridge for the view and a photo op. We hope to finally make it to the Witte Museum and will likely return to the Zoo and the Friendly Spot in South Town.
This is where we need you help. We are looking for the places in San Antonio where the locals and Spurs fans go - we want to get away from the tourists and see the spots and meet the people that make San Antonio unique and special. Where is the best new local coffee spot. Where are at the Spurs murals located? What’s the new development on North St. Mary’s Strip like? Is the Alamo Beer Company as good as it sounds? Should we go to the Black Jack Speed Shop?
Do you have suggestions, ideas, comments? Please share them with me by clicking the contact button below. I will be chronicling the trip here on Spurs in the 6 and will be sure to give you a shout out!
