Behind 35 points from Derrick White and another 23 points from Darrun Hilliard, the Austin Spurs defeated the Raptors 905 in a thrilling start to the G League Finals. In a nutshell, the 905 defence could not contain the Spurs who shot 49% from the field (39-80), 52% from three (11-21) and 80% from the line (16-20). Uncharacteristically, the 905 were also out rebounded 45-36, including 12-8 on the offensive boards. The Matt Costello block party also continued, which was one of the main reasons the 905 shooting percentage dropped to 43% (34-80) by the end of the game. That said, it was anyone's ball game as the 905 fought back to tie the game with 6 minutes to go in the fourth court. You really couldn't ask for a much more entertaining games from the two best teams in the G League this season.
The series moves to Mississauga for game two on Tuesday with Spurs looking to come home with the trophy and the 905 looking to force a return trip to Austin.
