February 10, 2021

The Raptors 905 started the season on a winning note with an impressive 132-105 win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at the NBA G league bubble in Orlando.

The 905, who lead 74-56 at the half, cleared the century mark after three quarters to take a 108-80 lead into the fourth and cruised to the win after that.

Nik Stauskas lead the 905 soaring with 19 points and 7 rebounds.Alize Johnson pulled down 13 rebounds to go with 16 points. Henry Ellenson also had 16 points and an impressive +37 rating.

First round draft pick, and Toronto Raptors assignee, Malachi Flynn struggled from the field and finished with 12 points on 4-16 shooting.

After a back and forth first half, with 12 lead changes, a 14-0 run by the Erie BayHawks in the middle of the fourth quarter did in the Raptors 905 who fell to BayHawks 138-126.

Malachi Flynn bounced back from his poor shooting performance in the season opener to lead the

905 with 25 points (on 10-20 shooting), 6 assists and 8 rebounds.

If you go to NBA G League website, you will see that the league has really been promoting the new NBA Ignite team (a collection of top prospects and NBA veterans). On Saturday, the Raptors 905 faced the hype first hand and were on the wrong end of the final 113-105 score.

Ultimately, it was the 905's shooting from dismissal three point shooting that did them in as the squad went 7-44 (16%, yikes!) from three. Nik Stauskas was 1-9, Henry Ellenson was 2-9 and Malachi Flynn was 3-10. This also marks the second sub-par shooting outing in three games for Flynn. The 905 will certainly need Flynn to find his range if they hope to be one of the eight teams to make the playoff round.

Stauskas was the elating scorer, for the second time in three games, with 23 points. He also had a team worst -19 rating.

Next Game

The 905 return to action court on February 15th, to face the Santa Cruz Warrioers. Tip-off is at 7pm EST.
